Cloud file recovery

Find the copy of your file that still exists

Deleted, overwritten and synced-away files leave different traces. Tell us what happened and we point you to the places a copy may still be — in your own account and devices.

Start with what happened

DraftBoard copy; provider periods and menu paths are added from a dated fact ledger before build.

Where might another copy exist?

Possible places, not a guaranteed path. Which ones apply depends on the provider, the account and the date.

  1. Cloud trashcheckOnly while the provider keeps it
  2. Version historycheckFor files that were changed, not removed
  3. Synced computer or phonecheckIts own trash or recycle bin may hold a copy
  4. Backup or exportcheckOnly if one was made before the change
  5. The file’s owner or admincheckShared and work files are controlled by them

Pick your provider

Personal and work or school accounts follow different rules; each guide says which.

Two separate jobs

Getting back into the account

Passwords, sign-in and recovery codes. Needed first if you cannot sign in.

Getting the file back

Trash, version history, devices and backups. Only works once you are in the right account.

Questions

Is my file gone for good if it is not in the trash?

Not always. Version history, a synced device, a backup or the file’s owner may still have a copy. Check those before you assume it is lost.

Will getting my account back restore my files?

No. Account recovery gives you sign-in again; your files are only there if a copy still exists in that account or elsewhere.

Can a paid service recover permanently deleted cloud files?

Be careful with offers that promise a certain result. If no copy remains with the provider or on your devices, a third party has nothing to restore from.

Does this site need my account?

No. There is no sign-in here and nothing to upload. Every step happens in your own provider account and devices.
