Responsible use
For your own files, and files you manage
These guides help you find copies in accounts and devices you own or administer. Nothing here opens someone else’s account.
What we do, and what we never do
We do
- Explain where a copy of your file may still exist
- Point to the provider’s own restore route
- Say plainly when nothing is left
We never
- Access, recover or monitor another person’s cloud account
- Ask for passwords, codes or files
- Promise recovery of permanently deleted data
Requests we turn down
| Request | Why not | Instead |
|---|---|---|
| Get files from my ex’s Drive | It is their account | Ask them to share or return the files |
| Recover a deleted work file without IT | Work data is controlled by the admin | Ask your administrator |
| Promise to bring back permanently deleted files | No copy, nothing to restore | Check devices and backups first |
Paid “recovery” offers
A service that promises to recover permanently deleted cloud files without your devices or backups is promising something the providers’ own help does not describe. Check the provider route first.
